Details of how to mass calibrate a time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOFMS) system using both peptide and synthetic polymer calibrants can now be found on our wiki:
Updated Excel files containing tables of both exact and average masses of the ions observed for various polymer calibrants, including polyethylene glycol (PEG), polypropylene glycol, PPG, polytetramethylene glycol (PTMEG), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) with various endgroups are now found on the wiki at http://tofmscalibration.wikispaces.com/CalibrantInfo. A list of amino acid residue masses and commonly observed clusters for the MALDI matrices 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB) and alpha-cyano-4-hydoxycinnamic acid (CHCA) are also located there.
