Dr. Wei Group at Drexel Hosted A Delegation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on Molecular Electronics
| A high-level Delegation on Molecular Electronics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited Drexel University on September 7-11, 2000. The Delegation was led by Prof. Fosong Wang, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the People's Congress of China, Academician, and former Vice-President of CAS. Other members were Prof. Daoben Zhu, Sr. Deputy Director of the National Science Foundation of China, Academician, and former Director of the Beijing Institute of Chemistry of CAS; Prof. Yong Huang, Deputy Director of Bureau of Basic Research, CAS; Prof. Xiaben Jing, Deputy Director of Chang-Chun Institute of Applied Chemistry of CAS; Prof. Fenglian Bai, Beijing Institute of Chemistry of CAS. The purposes of their visit were to learn the latest developments in the areas of advanced materials for molecular electronics and to explore the opportunities for collaborative research programs between US and China. Dr. Harvill Eaton, Sr. Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, welcomed the Delegation on behalf of the University at a dinner party in Chinatown (Figure 1). Dr. Yen Wei, Professor of Chemistry, was the main host for the Delegation. He gave two seminars on electroactive materials and nanotechnology to the Delegation and other members of Drexel community. The Delegation had several round table discussions with Wei group in the Chemistry Department (Figure 2). They also visited Prof. Frank Ko's Laboratory. Before Drexel, the Delegation visited Prof. Alan MacDiarmid at Penn, who was named a winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry in October. |
